Sweet Music died on a Saturday evening. Halfway through doing her makeup her heart gave out. She fell out of her chair and clutched at her chest while everything went dark.

The woman in her attic took over from there. Took the clothes from her body and copied the makeup on her face and followed the directions Sweet Music’s friends sent all the way to the bowling alley.

Sweet Music, as the women from the attic came to be called, had stowed herself away in that sunless room for some time, listening and watching the previous Sweet Music’s every word and action for nearly three years.

When Monday came around, the new Sweet Music went to her old job and gossiped with all the woman she only knew from when they came over to drink red wine with the old Sweet Music. And for three years she was happy.
